Goodwill Payments - Do They Benefit Communities or Bring Planning into Disrepute?
CPRE is concerned that Goodwill payments are becoming more of a bribe than a goodwill payment and should be banned. To read the CPRE briefing note click here. (List of known goodwill payments) The Western Morning News has also picked up on this and has both an article and an editorial comment in the 9th October edition.

Wind Farms
We are very concerned about the number of applications for very large wind turbines in attractive countryside, particularly when it is now clear that they make a very small contribution to a reduction in CO2 emissions.

Biomass plant
We are keeping a close eye on the proposed biomass plant at Winkleigh, which would include serious extra emissions of CO2 from the many vehicles required to convey the miscanthus grass feedstock.

District Local Plans cottage
We are strongly opposing the proposals for new settlements close to Plymouth and Exeter, in the belief that housing needs can be met within the boundaries of both these cities. We are much involved in responding to consultations about new plans, including giving evidence to public enquiries. The new Local Development Frameworks are beginning to emerge, and will occupy us extensively.

Parish Plans cottage
We support the production of parish plans and village design statements, and have some funds available to assist their production. We believe that giving responsibility to parishes to get involved in planning their own future is very worthwhile.

Best Kept Village
Best Kept Village 2008 is being sponsored by Mole Valley Farmers. The object of the competition is to encourage villages possessing a real sense of community to improve their local environment by caring for buildings, clearing litter and promoting schemes to improve the general appearance of the area.
